The route is long to get to Cape Town. Psychologically, Sailing is not an easy sport, as you are often forced to cover many additional miles more than the direct route to go from one point to another, and the track never stops getting longer!
But it is also this difficulty which means that the psychological aspect is all the more primordial within the game, you must hold on and never give up, day after day.
Lost or gained miles are also signs of strength and weakness to your adversaries. After more than two weeks of racing we are still close to Ericsson 4 but we are not ready to give up, and clearly nor are they... We need to persist, maintain the rhythm, the pressure, the rate until the conditions change and one of us takes an advantage over the other. I experienced the last Volvo Ocean Race with some of the crew of Ericsson 4 and I know that we all have a lot of respect for each other...but as the occasion presents itself, it is with an iron will that I will do everything possible to put distance on them.
From here to Cape Town, things will accelerate and the atmosphere will not be the same, faster paced and tiring days ahead for us. We mustn't break anything and make the most of the qualities of il mostro.
The fight is beautiful and we take it up with pleasure.
Until soon,
Sidney
