The predicted cold front hit the Volvo Ocean Race fleet in the Southern Atlantic yesterday and the conditions were exactly as our boys expected. Our latest update shows il mostro was cruising at 27.26 knots in 30.3 knots of wind (pretty breezy!). As Kenny said; >"The fans are on and we sped up the action. Finally, we're headed to Cape Town, that's a good sign."
The team is playing it on the safe side right now by using careful weather routing to keep them out of an area of 50 knots of breeze which would be hard to race effectively in. But, they are expected to see solid 30 knot breeze for the next three days. The team is staying away from the huge breeze which Kenny describes as a 'drag race' because it will be easy to break the boat in these conditions, and any of the eight boat fleet that does, will really lose out.
Right now, il mostro is sandwiched between Ericsson 4 and the Green Dragon. They have spent the last few days preparing for the big weather. Kenny said they feel well prepared and that apart from being pretty tired, the team and boat are functioning at 100 percent.
